  1. From one mother to another, I can relate to your disappointment. I have only been turned away once and had only driven 100 miles but the family behind me in line that day (4generations from the looks of them) had driven several hundred. We’re in Mississippi and at this facility the excuse was “the computers are down and we can’t check the inmate’s approved visitor list” … I could have cried for them! Prayers that you’ll have a Merry Christmas!!!

  2. Is USP Beaumont currently on lockdown as of December 9th, 2014? Or does someone know how to find out? Thank you for any help!!

      • Sharron, thank you so much! Do you know how long they have been off lockdown? I did call that number last night to ask about the status of my inmate, if they were on lockdown but she said they couldnt give out that info but to call back today and ask to speak to the inmates counselor. I called today and they said yes they aren’t on lockdown but didn’t really help me to know how to check thei inmates status. This is very new to me and so I’m not sure how to find out information. I haven’t heard from my inmate in a week and I usually hear from him a couple times a day.

  3. They have been off lockdown at least a week or so now. Maybe he is In the SHU. I don’t know of any way to check status other than speak to his counselor. When my son has been in the SHU, which has not been for years, he would write me right away to let me know. My guess is either he had his communication privileges taken away for a shot, or he is in the SHU. I hope not, as sometimes they keep the there for weeks. Please keep in touch and let me know.

    • Thank you very much for your help Sharron! It’s hard to find help so I really appreciate your kindness. I’m going try to get ahold of his counselor. I will keep in touch and let you know, thanks again!

  4. Sharron thanks again for your help. You seem to know a lot more about this and more knowledgeable. I’ve tried to call and it either just rings and rings or says dial to have an operator to assist you and then says that extension is invalid. I’m getting at the end of my rope lol trying to find answers or to get in contact with his counselor. He was to hear about an appeal sometime between December 1st and December 10th so I’m not sure if that has to something to do with it. If he got transferred that might be why. I’m not familiar with that process. I emailed the email address that’s on the main page and haven’t gotten a response. So I don’t know. Lol

  5. Hi Cari, How frustrating. I have found that the facility does respond from the email address, but may not give you much information. The other option may very well be that he has been transferred. When they transfer inmates, they often take them without any warning. So they can’t notify anyone. If they are being transferred far away from where they were, they may have a bus ride to a different facility, and then a wait for enough inmates who are going to the same place to send them by plane or even another bus ride. This process can take weeks. Does he have any credit to make a phone call to you? I would call the main number again on Monday and ask again if he is still there.

  6. Hi Sharron. Yes I made sure he has plenty of money on his account. However the money was put on his account about the same time that he stopped emailing all the sudden so he may have not known to check too see that more money was put on. Do you happen to know if an inmate gets transferred, does their money in their account transfer with them to the new prison? Do all their letters and belongings go with them? I’m sorry for all the questions lol. I’m just new at this. We email through CorrLinks and on the CorrLinks website it says if an inmate gets transferred, they can update their system to have their current info changed but he may not know to do that. There are a lot of numbers to remember, I’m not good at remembering numbers lol, so he may not know my addresses, or email or phone numbers all by memory but if he has his belongings go with him when he is transferred then he have all that information. I’m just worried and anxious, I’m sorry to keep bothering you. I really appreciate your help.

  7. Cari,
I never mind helping. That is part of why this site is up and running.

His money does travel with him, because it is always in his account. Sometimes the personal belongings are sent separately, and unfortunately sometimes they don’t always receive all their belongings. I have never heard of their photos and papers getting lost though. Usually it more likely to be something someone would want, like a radio or hot pot for heating up water.

I sincerely hope you find out something on Monday. It is terrible not to know what is going on right at Christmas. Have you sent a letter to him? If he is in the SHU, he can write you and he can get mail.

If you don’t find out Monday or Tuesday, if you want to write me and tell me his name, I can ask my son to see if he knows him. There are a lot of inmates there, but you never know. I hear from him through Corrlinks almost every day.

    Keep your thoughts positive!

  8. I know this site is up and going to help people and I appreciate it as well as you. Im glad I found this page. Yeah it is hard not to know, especially during the holidays. I haven’t sent a snail mail letter since I stopped hearing from him but I will do that right away. I wasn’t sure if they could even send or receive mail in the SHU. That be great if you could ask your son. I know it’s a big place so I understand it’s a small chance, to not get my hopes up lol but like you said you never know but I can wait to give you his name until Monday or Tuesday if you want after I try calling again?Whatever is easier for you. I don’t want to cause any trouble or bother to you. Thank you.

    • Cari, you are never a bother. I appreciate how difficult it is. I remember when I first had to visit my son in prison and it was devastating. It does get easier, but it is never fun and when you don’t know what is going on it makes it more difficult. Try to keep your spirits up!

  9. Oh also I forgot to ask. When I send a letter do I use the same address that I usually use? Because if he is in SHU I didn’t know if I use the same address or what. I want to make sure to send to the right address so that if he is in SHU he can still get it. Sorry another question lol but thanks. I know you may not know all the answers but it sounds like you have been going through this with your son for awhile. He is blessed to have support like that, to have a mom like you to give him that support.

  10. Hello. I have called the main number like 3 times today and it just says if this is about an inmate to hit O or to remain on the line and when you do that, it’s says that mailbox is invalid, nothing ever happens:(

  11. Yes, you are right. I tried it an got the same thing. So, I sent an email to the Department of BOP to say the USP Beuamont phone was not working. That is just not right. I’ll see if I get a reply.

  12. Thank goodness he is out. I’m happy for you. Tell him next time to send you a snail mail to let you know, so you won’t worry. I told my son that you hadn’t heard from him, and he said. I bet he is in the SHU. Also, let him know that most of the time what ever got him in the hole probably was not worth it. Keep his cool and stay out. At least this makes Christmas a little easier, as you are able to communicate with him!

  13. Thank you. He said he sent a letter I guess I just hadn’t gotten it yet. I know what your saying whatever lands them there isn’t worth it. Thank you again for your help and kindness, it’s rare to find. I wish you and your family blessed Christmas.

      • Thanks Samantha. We appreciate any information! It does seem like there are more lockdowns during the holidays than any other time. I would guess it is a combination of the inmates getting angry and restless, and fewer guards on duty who really don’t want to be there. Let us know if you hear when they get off lockdown!

    • I haven’t heard anything, as my son was transferred out a week or so ago to Leavenworth. (Probably an even worse place) Have you tried calling the main number and asking them what’s going on? I have called them in the past and sometimes they do answer. The other alternative is to email them. They do answer emails … eventually. BMP/ExecAssistant@bop.gov (409) 727-8188.
